LCA modelling of MSW management system: approach and case study© IWWG International Waste Working Group (11/2006)
The waste hierarchy is an easy and comprehendible tool for supporting decision making in solid waste management. The waste hierarchy gives priority to waste reduction, reuse and recycling, incineration and landfilling but the basis for this priority is quite uncertain (McDougall,F.R. et al., 2001;Rasmussen,C. et al., 2005). Thus, it has been the aim to evaluate waste management systems by their environmental profiles by using life cycle assessment.
